Wrapping up a month’s long vacation and living in every minute of one day

The date is August 26, 1989. Mom and I have 4 days left until we depart back to the U.S. Today would be the day that my cousins and friends decide that we shall leave no stone unturned! First things first though. Mom and I have a wonderful morning routine of swimming followed by some coffee in the platia. We must take in every second of this beauty in the early morning hours but on this day, I decided to enjoy almost all of the 24 hours we get each day. Not only did we swim at sunrise, but we went back in the afternoon for our second swim and then back to the house for the island siesta time (which allowed us to feel even more relaxed).

As the platia opened back up that evening we headed down to have some “meze” (think light appetizers). Mom did all the socializing she needed for the evening and headed back up the steps to the house. I on the other hand joined the gathering of cousins and friends for beer and backgammon around 10pm. This continued until midnight, and it was then we decided this group was going to keep moving until the sun came up!

Next stop on the tour was Fterro. We were just getting wound up at this point and we stayed until around 2am. Where to next? Flic Flac (the disco) of course! Before you knew it we were all dancing and not with anyone in particular. Just dancing! That is a zen moment. When you are truly living in that space and time and just feel so free. I highly recommend it. We left Fterro at 5am. Yes, you read that correctly. The entire group headed down to the platia for an early morning swim. At one point someone made a run to the bakery to get fresh, warm bread for all of us. This is the simplicity of island life. An early morning swim and fresh baked bread on the beach.

For me personally, I can say I lived completely in the 24 hours that God gave me that day and it was magical. I hope you can experience it someday too.

August 27th was a rest day for me LOL…enjoy life. Journal it. To look back and read so much of this trip has been such a blessing. I haven’t shared all the details, but I am sure you get the picture. I will save the details for a motion picture deal. Haha!….or maybe I’m not joking.

Only a few more entries to go. #avoiceforwomen
